Petauke Residents Laud Constitution Amendments Process
11/1/2025

SCORES of residents in Petauke, Eastern Province have lauded the on-going Constitutional Amendment process stating it is a great opportunity for citizens to the constitution that reflects the will, wisdom, and aspirations of all Zambians.
John Mwale, a Business Executive, of Petauke Central said it is important that people contribute to this process as it gives them chance to speak out on how best they should be governed.
“It’s disheartening to see that some groups have chosen to reject the constitutional amendment process outright without offering constructive input. As a society, we called for a broader consultation and inclusive platform where every voice could be heard, every concern tabled, and every hope for our nation’s future considered,” Mr Mwale said.
Another resident, Mabvuto Zulu, who echoed similar sentiments called on stakeholders to refrain from politicising the on-going Constitutional amendment process.
“Now that the opportunity is here, it is not the time to retreat into silence or blanket rejection. It is the time to engage. If there are provisions you disagree with, say so and say why. If there are values or rights you want protected, speak up. If there are gaps, propose solutions,” Mr Zulu said.
He said failure to submit without explanation is not a positive move but a missed opportunity to contribute to social and economic growth of the country.
The residents made these remarks after making their submissions during public sitting.
