Bill 7 Signing Ceremony

Thursday, December 18, 2025

Fellow citizens,

Today, we have fulfilled our solemn responsibility by granting assent to Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 7 of 2025, formally integrating it into our national constitution.

This act marks a new dawn for our country’s social, economic, and political landscape, laying the foundation for greater inclusion of women, youth, and persons with disabilities.

This landmark document belongs to you, the people of Zambia. It is not the property of any single group, be it defined by religion, politics, ethnicity, or ideology. Our new constitutional era is about welcoming those who were once marginalized, and reaffirming that Zambia grows stronger when every citizen is given a rightful place in shaping our nation.

The process of amending our constitution was enriched through spirited debate and engagement. Our citizens voiced their support and concerns with passion, and through open dialogue, we achieved consensus. In its nature, debate demands compromise, and, in this instance, it has fortified our democracy and deepened our understanding of one another.

With the amendments now enshrined in law, let us set aside our divisions and move forward with unity. Let love, not hatred, define the spirit of our nation. Let us draw upon the unyielding resilience that characterizes our people, and focus that determination on overcoming the challenges that lie ahead.

Let us dedicate ourselves to building a country rooted in hard work, integrity, and collective ambition. Together, let’s shape a Zambia where every citizen is respected, heard, and empowered, a Zambia where shared progress and genuine hope are within everyone’s reach.

United, hand in hand, let us advance stronger, wiser, and with a common sense of purpose. Our future depends not on the volume of our disagreements, but on the courage with which we work together to build a better nation for all.

One Zambia, One Nation.

Hakainde Hichilema,

President of the Republic of Zambia.
